Annual Evaluation Process: Faculty Success Plans to be implemented only if teaching does not meet expectations
The Chancellor’s approval of revisions to Faculty Manual Part VIII.I.IV changes the threshold for requiring a faculty success plan as part of the annual evaluation process. Previously, a faculty member who did not meet expectations in any area would be subject to a faculty success plan, but this revision aligns campus practice with UNC policy and now faculty success plans will only be imposed if a faculty member does not meet expectations in teaching. The performance review of tenured faculty (post-tenure review) process will still include faculty success plans that are implemented if a faculty member’s overall performance does not meet expectations.
Approval of Provisional Codes for College of Health and Human Sciences, ECU Libraries
The Chancellor has approved the provisional codes for the College of Health and Human Sciences, which is a college formed from the merger of most of the units of the College of Allied Health Sciences and the College of Health and Human Performance. The units that will be part of that college are:
- Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies
- Clinical Laboratory Sciences
- Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Health Education and Promotion
- Health Services and Information Management
- Human Development and Family Science
- Kinesiology
- Nutrition Sciences
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Recreation Sciences and Sport Management
- Social Work
The Chancellor also approved the provisional code for the ECU Libraries, which merged the units of Academic Library Services and Health Sciences Library. The provisional codes can be found on the Academic Unit Codes of Operation listing.

Policies, Rules, and Regulations Sent Out for Comment
Two policies, rules, and regulations (PRRs) have been circulated for open comment. The Faculty Officers consider the PRRs that are opened for comment and decide whether they should be assigned to committees for review. They agreed to send the Budget Entries Allowed Under Maximum Flexibility Legislation regulation to the University Budget and Faculty Compensation Committee, and the Antivirus Regulation to the Digital Learning and Academic Technology Committee. These committees are not operating over the summer, so their feedback will be submitted in the fall.
Faculty are encouraged to submit their own feedback on the items through the system, but they will be required to sign in using their ECU credentials. If faculty wish for their feedback to be anonymous, they may send their feedback to Dr. Mark Bowler, Chair of the Faculty, and he will submit it on their behalf, or they may submit an anonymous comment to the Faculty Senate Contact Form.
