I. Teaching

A. Professional Development for Teaching is offered campus wide as led through the Office for Faculty Excellence. Additional professional development for teaching is available through the following:

B. Information and Computer Services

Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS) supports employees through the integration of information, technology, and instruction.

C. ECU Libraries offers a host of services related to teaching, including Interlibrary Loan, the University Writing Center, e-textbooks, course reserves, and more.

II. Research

A. Grants, Contracts, and Cooperative Agreements

ECU’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) has responsibility for pre-award activities involved in the preparation and submission of proposals on behalf of ECU to external sponsors for support of projects in research, creative activity, training, and public service. OSP must review and approve all proposals for grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements prepared by faculty for submission to outside funding sources before submission to external sponsors.

The Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC) is the University Office responsible for post-award activities related to projects that have been awarded by external sponsors to ECU faculty that support projects/programs in research, creative activity, training, and public service/clinical care. OGC is responsible for ensuring that expenditures are in accordance with sponsor and institutional guidelines. OGC also assists investigators in preparing information for sponsor required financial reporting.

The Office of Licensing and Commercialization is avaialble to assist facutly with innovations.

D. The Statistics and Research Workshop Series is offered through the Office for Faculty Excellence along with opportunities for individual consulting on research.

E. Support for faculty writing can be found through the Writing Center and through the ECU Libraries on the Health Science Campus.

III. Lifelong Learning and Professional Support

A. Tuition Privileges for Faculty

North Carolina General Statute section 116-143 authorizes the Board of Governors to provide a waiver of tuition and fees for faculty and staff under certain conditions. The UNC Policy Manual 1000.2.2.1[R] provides the regulations to implement the waiving of tuition and fees for qualified faculty and staff. Consistent with UNC Policy and state law, and as provided by this Regulation, eligible faculty and staff members employed by East Carolina University may have tuition and required fees waived for up to three ECU for-credit academic courses per year. Additionally, the Faculty and Staff Textbook Loan Program can help defray the costs of course materials.

B. ECU Continuing and Professional Education opportunities are available through the About Continuing and Professional Education page.

C. ECU also offers professional support through POSO Resume Review. The Student Government Association Professional Photo Booth and ECU News Services offer professional headshots.

D. Conflict mediation and Ombuds services are also available.

IV. Wellness and Other Services

A. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program provides a wide variety of resources including but not limited to individual coaching for physical and mental health, as well as referrals for legal and other services.

B. The ECU Health and Student Health Pharmacy can fill prescriptions and provide some over-the-counter medications. ECU Health also has a rapid access benefit for quick access to physician services.

C. Campus Dining Meal Plans and Pirate Perks provide options for eating and shopping on campus.

D. Cultural resources are available through the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, the Women and Gender Office, and the Peel Center.

E. Campus Recreation, ECU Arts, and ECU Athletics contribute to holistic health and wellbeing. See individual websites for fees.

F. Notary services are also available on campus.
